Vans Half Cab
Half is half, and Cab in this case is not a taxi, but a shortening of the surname Caballero, the legendary skateboarder. He had his own model of the popular Vans Caballero ankle sneaker, which at some point skateboarders started cutting off the top part and taping the slit with duct tape, because skateboarding had moved from the pool to the street by then and the high ankle was getting in the way of the foot. The slit sneaker was used until Steve Caballero decided to respond to the new trend and partnered with Vans to launch a sneaker simply called the Half Cab.
Materials
Suede: Leather with a characteristic brushed finish and a soft, velvety texture. Unlike smooth leather, it is produced from the inside of the leather, which gives the material an unmistakable softness and suppleness. The main advantages of suede footwear include high breathability and the ability to adapt quickly to the anatomical shape of the foot, making the shoes comfortable from the first wear. Suede stands out for its depth of colour and gives the shoes a premium look. In order for the material to retain its properties and beauty, regular impregnation is recommended to ensure protection against moisture and dirt.
Textile: The textile upper of the sneakers is lightweight, breathable and comfortable, ideal for everyday wear and sports. It ensures air circulation, keeps feet fresh and adapts to their shape. Often complemented with synthetic or rubber details for durability and support.
Wafer: A revolutionary type of sole characterised by its square grid pattern that resembles the texture of a waffle. This design was originally conceived to create a lightweight sole that would provide excellent traction on different types of surfaces without the need for heavy metal spikes. The protruding rubber lugs act as independent cushioning elements that absorb shock on impact and provide maximum grip on rebound. The waffle outsole is prized for its flexibility and light weight, making it an ideal choice for running shoes and stylish leisure footwear where stability and a sure stride are emphasized.

Van Doren Rubber Co. was founded in 1966 by Paul Van Doren in Anaheim, California. The brand’s unique journey began when Paul experimented with molding soles on a classic waffle maker—an unconventional idea at the time that has since become a cornerstone of modern footwear. At Footshop, we offer a wide range of Vans apparel, sneakers, and accessories for men, women, and children in a variety of styles and colors.
