Vans Checkerboard
Vans Checkerboard - starring a checkerboard! Slip-Ons, Old Skooly, Sk8-Hi and other well-known and time-tested silhouettes in a checkerboard design. The roots of the use of this pattern on Vans date back to the late 70s when Steve Van Doren, son of founder Paul, noticed skaters colouring the white soles of the Slip-Ons with black marker to create that aforementioned checkered design. As with many other Vans models, the Checkerboard collection is based on the skate pop culture of the last century. The Checkerboards definitely became legendary after 1982, hand in hand with the premiere of the movie Golden Times at Ridgemont High, where they were worn by the film's main character, played by Sean Penn. Their clever two-tone design also makes them much easier to match with your outfit, so pick yours up here at Footshop!
Vans Half Cab
Half is half, and Cab in this case is not a taxi, but a shortening of the surname Caballero, the legendary skateboarder. He had his own model of the popular Vans Caballero ankle sneaker, which at some point skateboarders started cutting off the top part and taping the slit with duct tape, because skateboarding had moved from the pool to the street by then and the high ankle was getting in the way of the foot. The slit sneaker was used until Steve Caballero decided to respond to the new trend and partnered with Vans to launch a sneaker simply called the Half Cab.
Materials
Leather: It is a natural material known for its durability, flexibility and ability to adapt to the shape of the foot, ensuring unparalleled comfort and durability.
Rubber: a material that is very easy to maintain and you will appreciate it especially in rainy weather.
Wafer: The legendary sole that will never lose touch with the surface. It is especially typical for Vans sneakers.
Van Doren Rubber Co. was founded in 1966 by Paul Van Doren in Anaheim, California. The brand’s unique journey began when Paul experimented with molding soles on a classic waffle maker—an unconventional idea at the time that has since become a cornerstone of modern footwear. At Footshop, we offer a wide range of Vans apparel, sneakers, and accessories for men, women, and children in a variety of styles and colors.
