UpperWaterproof TechWaterproof TechAn umbrella term for technologies that make footwear completely impermeable to water while maintaining the material's ability to "breathe". The basis is usually a microporous membrane (e.g. Gore-Tex® or eVent®), which has openings smaller than a drop of water but larger than a molecule of water vapour. As a result, water from outside cannot penetrate in, while sweat and moisture can escape out. These technologies often also include taped seams and a water-repellent treatment on the upper (DWR), ensuring that feet stay dry and warm even when moving for long periods in rain, snow or wet terrain.

FeatureWaterproofWaterproofWater-Resistance defines the ability of the material sandwich or upper construction to withstand water penetration under moderate hydrostatic pressure for a specified time interval. Unlike fully waterproof membrane systems, it relies on a high density of fiber bonding combined with surface impregnation, mechanical barriers, and a dense weaving structure. This configuration effectively eliminates surface capillary water absorption while maintaining a high moisture permeability factor (low RET value). In both footwear and apparel segments, it serves to protect against moisture from dynamic movement, light snow, and moderate precipitation without increasing thermal discomfort. / ImpermeabileImpermeabileWaterproofness as a construction feature defines the ability of footwear or clothing to completely prevent the penetration of liquid water, even when exposed to continuous hydrostatic pressure (typically defined by a water column value of 10,000 mm or higher). This standard is achieved by integrating a microporous or non-porous membrane layer in combination with sealed or welded seams and water-repellent zippers or gusseted tongues in footwear. The resulting construction hermetically seals the internal space from external liquids without compromising the essential breathability needed for moisture evaporation.
