adidas 20th Anniversary Samba Fashion Show

A legend that has raised generations. Meet the adidas Samba phenomenon.

When we say adidas Samba, we're not just talking about ordinary sneakers. We're talking about a cultural milestone. Originally designed for footballers to handle the game on frozen turf, they've transformed over time into an absolute essential wardrobe staple for anyone serious about style. From the British "terrace" subcultures of the '80s to gritty skate parks to the glitzy high-fashion catwalks of Paris, the adidas Samba shoes have come a way that other silhouettes couldn't dream of, and they're still not losing their breath.

If you're looking for a sneaker that will outlast passing trends and look great with both wide baggy jeans and more formal outfits, you've come to the right place. At Footshop, we've got you covered with the most covetable adidas Samba OGs, exclusive limited editions and new, bolder iterations of this classic.

From the football pitch to the city streets

The year was 1949 and Adi Dassler had a clear vision: to create a shoe that would give footballers perfect grip even on icy surfaces. The result was an innovative silhouette with a rubber sole that was named Samba. It was a clever strategic move to bring the model closer to the upcoming World Cup in Brazil (1950) and the rhythms there.

But the real breakthrough and the transition to lifestyle came later. In the 1970s and 1980s, the model was appropriated by football fans in the UK. the adidas Samba men's became an integral part of the "casuals" uniform and from there it was just a step into the world of music (think of the legendary era of Oasis or Blur) and cult films like Trainspotting. Today, the silhouette is a global symbol, proudly worn by fashion icons from Bella Hadid to Jerry Lorenzo to A$AP Rocky.

Anatomy of an icon: why does everyone want them?

What makes Samba so special after so many decades? It's the perfect mix of minimalism, history and functionality that has worked for over 70 years.

• T-Toe overlay: Iconic suede toe in the shape of the letter T. Originally protecting the toes when kicking the ball, it now serves as the main identifying feature and adds texture to the shoe.
• Gum Sole: A dark brown rubber sole that gives the shoe just the right vintage vibe, provides great boardfeel and contrasts perfectly with the leather upper.
• Gold Foil Branding.

Whether you reach for the classic adidas Samba Black/White or the clean adidas Samba White, you're getting your hands (and feet) on the design that literally defined the adidas Originals aesthetic.

OG, Vegan or Platform? Choose your vibe

While the adidas Samba OG stays true to its original form pulled straight from the archives, the German giant isn't afraid to experiment and push boundaries. For those who want a classic with a modern twist and more volume, there's an answer in the form of the adidas Samba XLG. This version brings a 'chunky' aesthetic, a wider silhouette and a more pronounced sole that fits perfectly with the current trend of oversized trousers and skate culture.

In addition, our range also includes the adidas Samba women's version on a raised platform (Sambarose) or the conscious Samba Vegan variant, which retains the identical look but is made entirely without the use of animal materials. And let's not forget the premium collaborations - whether it's the sophisticated work of Wales Bonner, the clean aesthetic of Sporty & Rich or the colours from Humanrace, the Samba serves as the perfect canvas for today's greatest visionaries.

How to wear the adidas Samba (Outfit Check)

There are no hard and fast rules here, but if you want to be "on point", take inspiration from the current blockcore aesthetic that has taken over social media.

• For her: the adidas Samba women's look great in contrasting outfits - try them with long maxi skirts, jorts (denim shorts) or loose suit trousers. Team with a vintage football jersey or a simple white tee for a "clean girl" aesthetic.
• For him: the adidas Samba sneakers are the king of casual elegance. Wear them with wide leg jeans (baggy fits are a must), quality white socks and a non-printed sweatshirt or flannel shirt.

Sizing Guide: What size to choose?

This is important so you're not disappointed when you unpack the box. The adidas Samba shoes (especially the classic OG version) are known for being cut rather narrow.

• If you have a narrow foot, your regular size (True To Size) should fit perfectly.
• If you have a wider foot or prefer more room in the toe area, we strongly recommend taking a half size up (US size).
• With the adidas Samba XLG, the fit is a little more "forgiving" thanks to the extra padding and wider construction, but the rule still applies - prefer half a size up for maximum comfort.
