Salomon XT-4 OG GTX
Looking for sneakers that can handle muddy trails just as well as wet sidewalks on your way to work? The Salomon XT-4 OG GTX in all-black combines trail heritage with clean street style. Thanks to the GORE-TEX membrane, you’ll stay dry even when the weather turns. The all-black design from toe to heel feels cohesive, so you won’t have to stress about matching them with your outfit.
The upper combines synthetic materials and textiles with a waterproof membrane, making these sneakers durable while allowing your feet to breathe. The midsole features Agile Chassis System (ACS) technology for foot stabilization, giving you confidence on uneven surfaces. The Contagrip® outsole grips wet rocks, gravel, and pavement. The quick-lacing system tightens with a single pull, so you won’t have to deal with loose laces. The low cut keeps your ankle free, making them suitable for outdoor adventures as well as everyday errands. Pair them with cargo pants and a technical jacket for a complete gorpcore look. The brand was founded in 1947 in Annecy, France, under the Alps and continues to design footwear inspired by mountains and trail running.
Salomon XT-4
The forgotten predecessor of the iconic XT-6, returning as a fashion classic - Salomon XT-4
Before Salomon's trail shoes became street icons, there was a model that laid the groundwork a few years earlier than its more famous sibling. Salomon XT-4 originally emerged as a purely performance-driven trail shoe, but over the years it has transformed into one of the brand's most distinctive streetwear silhouettes. Today's OG version remains visually and technically close to the original, even though its purpose has completely shifted over more than a decade of existence. It’s a shoe that demonstrates how strongly trail heritage can resonate beyond the mountains.
History: from performance trail shoe S-LAB to streetwear icon
The model first launched in 2012 under the original name XT-Wings S-LAB, referencing its inclusion in the high-performance S-LAB line designed for elite trail runners. As Salomon gradually pushed the technologies of its top trail models further, the XT-4 transitioned from an active performance offering to the streetwear category – today’s “Sportstyle” version remains visually very close to the original, but its primary purpose is now the city, not the mountains. This transformation from a technical running shoe to a fashion silhouette foreshadowed the much more well-known story of the later XT-6 model.
Technology: Agile Chassis, SensiFit, and Contagrip
What makes the XT-4 stable and comfortable even in today’s lifestyle version are these elements taken directly from the trail original:
- Agile Chassis System: A full-length, extended outsole frame that creates a large contact area with the ground – in the terrain, it provided stability over long distances, today it gives the shoe its characteristic chunky look.
- SensiFit: A construction that wraps around the foot from the midsole to the lacing, ensuring a snug, “custom” fit and minimizing movement inside the shoe.
- Contagrip outsole: A chevron pattern designed to easily shed dirt, with grooves for flexibility in the forefoot – in the streets, it serves as a striking, textured visual element.
- Dual-density EVA midsole: A combination of two densities of foam that protected the foot and ensured a soft landing on the trail, today it adds comfort for all-day wear.
- Quicklace: A quick-lacing system adopted across Salomon's entire trail range – the shoe holds the foot securely without the need for traditional tying.
Design
The XT-4 OG retains the chunky, technical look of the original from 2012 – the combination of a prominent outsole, mesh upper, and visible chassis construction makes it one of the most recognizable silhouettes among trail-inspired sneakers.
Who the model is for
The XT-4 is a fashion silhouette for you if you’re looking for a distinctive, technically-oriented shoe with real trail heritage – perfect for fans of Salomon's archival design who want a blend of chunky aesthetics and comfort for everyday wear.
