New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5
New Balance has been making sneakers for runners since 1906, starting in Boston, and the women's running sneakers New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 showcase how far this experience has come over the years. They are lightweight, responsive, and literally encourage you to push harder. Whether you're heading out for a tempo run or a relaxed daily training, each stride returns energy, keeping your legs fresh even in the final kilometers.
Underfoot, you have a FuelCell foam midsole with high cushioning. It softens your landing while propelling you forward, making it especially appreciated by runners with a neutral stride. The Fantomfit upper combines synthetic materials with textiles, providing a secure fit while weighing almost nothing. The Rebel v5 features a narrower B-width insole, fitting slimmer feet best. The rubber outsole grips reliably on the road and treadmill, and thanks to reflective elements, you're visible when running in low light. The low-cut design and the Magnet/Pebble colorway look understated, allowing you to pair them with any running gear. You can find these sneakers at Footshop. New Balance still prides itself on its technical development, with some sneakers still made in the USA and the UK.
New Balance Rebel
Extreme Energy Return and Limitless Speed - New Balance FuelCell Rebel
Not every running shoe has a specific racing moment that inspired its creation – New Balance FuelCell Rebel does. It was born as a response to the performance of runner Jenny Simpson, who dominated the legendary street race in New York wearing similarly shaped footwear. Since then, it has gone through four generations of improvements and today stands among the most popular non-plated tempo trainers on the market. It combines a pronounced response from superfoam with a price more accessible than competing carbon models.
History: From Winning Race Inspiration to Its Own Identity
New Balance first introduced the Rebel in the summer of 2019. The shoe was inspired by the footwear in which Jenny Simpson won the famous street race 5th Avenue Mile in 2018 – New Balance adopted a similarly flared midsole construction and added a significant layer of cushioning, resulting in a lightweight shoe capable of handling both longer races and faster training paces. Since its initial release, the line has evolved through versions 2, 3, 4, and now the current v5, with the design of the latest generations led by Andrew Nyssen, the director of performance running design at New Balance. In 2024, the Rebel also gained attention beyond the running community thanks to a limited collaboration with musician Action Bronson.
Technology: FuelCell with PEBA and Rocker Geometry
What makes the current generation Rebel v4 one of the most cushioned shoes on the market, even without a carbon plate, are these elements:
- FuelCell Foam with PEBA Blend: New Balance added 20% PEBA material to the classic FuelCell foam, enhancing both shock absorption and, more importantly, energy return – tests show 63% in the heel and almost 67% in the toe.
- Rocker Geometry: A distinctly curved profile in both the heel and toe, which, along with a low stack of 28 mm in the heel, supports a quick, smooth roll of the foot ideal for tempo runs and intervals.
Durability
The Rebel is among shoes with lower durability typical for performance superfoam models – real tests show a range of approximately 300–650 km, with most runners reporting noticeable wear on the midsole around 320–400 km. By alternating between two pairs, users have achieved even higher values over 800 km.
Who This Model Is For
The Rebel is a performance shoe for you if you run faster tempo workouts, intervals, or shorter races and want a pronounced response without the need to invest in a more expensive carbon super shoe – it is less suitable for long, slow miles where lower durability would be most noticeable.

More than a century of tradition based on stable and reliable movement. These are the New Balance shoes, which have become a symbol around which a cult of comfortable walking and running lovers has been created during the 20th century. But beyond sneakers, New Balance is also at the forefront of everyday and sports fashion. Every year, a special collection is released and more than one football team boasts the NB logo on their jersey.
The history and development of New Balance shoes
On our website and practically anywhere else, you won't find a large number of brands as old as New Balance. In fact, as early as 1906, the New Balance Arch Support Company was formed to provide specific aids for each shoe. These were designed to not only provide comfort to the then not-so-comfortable shoes, but more importantly stability by supporting the arch of the foot - hence the name New Balance.
However, New Balance sneakers as shoes did not start to come out until many years later. Specifically, the first silhouette of a New Balance shoe saw the light of day in 1960 when the Trackster model came out. It was unique among the others primarily because it was the first outright running shoe with a crimped sole.
But the marketing didn't work very well and for a long time New Balance shoes were still a community affair. It wasn't until the 1970s that sales started to grow, with the popularisation of running, which was also linked to the hosting of the now iconic Boston Marathon. New Balance shoes began to become popular among runners and the company slowly but surely became a leading manufacturer of running shoes.
For running? Yes, but also no.
Today, however, men's and women's New Balance sneakers aren't just a running thing. Over years of branding and image building, they have become sneakers for almost every situation. Today we wear New Balance shoes before a trip to the countryside, a city walk but also a social event and still undoubtedly before a sporting performance.
New Balance sneakers can therefore be found in a variety of different designs. Men's and women's, in black and white and many other colours. The most popular models today are mainly New Balance sneakers with the 247, 373, 574 and 997. Of course, you can find all these New Balance shoes on Footshop. But besides these, there are also many others and the ranges of the latest silhouettes are constantly growing. So before you make your final choice, carefully examine all of our New Balance sneakers.
A record for stability.
New Balance footwear today is not afraid to venture into collaborations with other fashion brands, but also artists or athletes. It's not so long ago that the NB logo also started to appear on the jerseys of some football teams, and it's not impossible that the brand's influence and reach will continue to grow in the future. New Balance sneakers are worn, for example, by Trayvon Bromell, the American sprinter who became the first junior ever to break the magic ten-second mark in the 100 metres. Could it be that New Balance shoes helped him to achieve this?
In short,New Balance sneakers are a phenomenon that we have been wearing for many decades and everything indicates that we will be wearing them for many decades to come. And hopefully in greater numbers. The original intention of the brand, to make wearing sneakers on a daily basis more enjoyable, has not left New Balance shoes even more than a century after the legendary phrase was introduced to the market.
So be part of a tradition with a clear vision and name your sneakers with the iconic NB in the logo.
