How to get rid of the itch you won’t scratch? A Nike x Billie Eilish collaboration has landed at Footshop, defined by a new take on the Air Force 1 silhouette, minimalist apparel, and a story about a diagnosis with interpretation riddled with myths and half-truths. Discover the context of the new collab and the truth about Tourette Syndrome in an interview with Marek Kotalik.
The biggest highlight of the collection by Nike and American singer and artist Billie Eilish is undoubtedly a new take on the best-selling sneaker silhouette in history. The Nike Air Force 1 High subtitled ‘Sequoia’ comes in a deep forest green colorway that, fitting perfectly on the repurposed nubuck upper, also acts as a unifying element for all the collection’s components. Aside from the color, the main signature element is the five straps that line the high sneakers from toe-box to ankle.
Other details are less visible but shed a unique light on an already heavily modified pair from the mind of Bruce Kilgore, whose boldness far exceeds the standard that Nike allows in its AF1 collaborations. This is the case, for example, with the metallic deubré, Air Force’s iconic element on the front of the laces, which instead of the classic AF1 logo, features a Billie Eilish emblem in the form of a doll that also literally figures on the shoe box. We can also find the name of the 20-year-old singer on the box, which further appears on the lining inside the sneaker. The list of specifics of the unique sneakers is completed by the recycled material Swoosh Grind, which was used at least 8% in the making of the insole and sole.

We continue with the matching collection of unisex clothing, with which Nike confirms high confidence in the young artist by allowing her, as with Travis Scott’s releases, to alter the iconic logo. On a sweatshirt, t-shirt, and sweatpants in an oversized cut that perfectly captures the singer’s style, the Swoosh stands out 90 degrees inverted, which, along with the detail of Billie Eilish’s name, is the only print, underlining the minimalist approach to the outfit in contrast to the more formally styled sneakers.
Scratching an inner itch: A life with Tourette
Among many other things, Billie Eilish is known for spreading awareness about Tourette’s Syndrome, which she was diagnosed with many years ago. Tourette’s Syndrome is a diagnosis that involves feeling the urge to relieve an uncomfortable sensation that could be trivially described as an internal itch. Relief from the unpleasant state of mind is provided by the sometimes difficult-to-control tics, which vary in form and expression.
That is why one of the faces of our editorial is Marek, who has been suffering from the syndrome since he was a child and whom we interviewed on the topic of living with Tourette’s.
As part of the launch of the Nike x Billie Eilish collection, we decided to help the singer and give the public context about the unpleasant lifelong fate that people with Tourette’s Syndrome have to deal with daily. That’s also why one of the faces of our editorial for this collection is Marek, who has been suffering from the syndrome himself since he was a young boy and we interviewed him on the subject of living with Tourette’s. We talked about the most common myths that accompany the diagnosis in the public and media space and, of course, about the problems associated with it. However, since living with Tourette’s is all about mental strength and a positive attitude. You can read the full interview in the next article.
