Summer’s here, and it’s bringing your annual summer holiday with it. Once you’ve planned your destination, bought your tickets and figured out where you’re going to stay, the best part of the preparations is around the corner: packing your bags and thinking about what exactly you need to pack. Sure, some people just pack some underwear, sunscreen, a T-shirt and shorts and they’re done, but I think that you should have at least one stylish outfit ready for every summer holiday, packed in your bag. In order to help you pack everything you need, I’ve written this post, listing the 5 most important things you should always pack with you.

White sneakers as essential

What kind of Footshop post would this be without putting sneakers first? A pair of white sneakers is crucial when it comes to summer holidays by the seaside (or anywhere else, for that matter). Not only do they give you an ultimate burst of style, they offer support and comfort when going for light hikes or walks around the area, which can’t really be said for slides. Additionally, if you pick a pair made from breathable materials, such as a pair of adidas Ultraboosts or NMDs, your feet will definitely thank you. These models are equipped with the revolutionary Boost technology, which makes wearing them feel like walking on clouds. If you’re not a fan of adidas, grab the similar Nike Air Presto or Nike Air Huarache, which are currently experiencing a comeback. Girls, if you want a pair of white sneakers to go with your dress, try the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star 70 or the adidas Superstar Bold, which gives you an additional couple of centimeters.

THE BUCKET HAT – A SUMMER MUST HAVE

A couple of years ago, bucket hats used to get a bit of flack. But fast forward to 2021, and guess what kind of hat is the most practical and stylish now? Although baseball caps are still the higher-grossing summer accessory (how to choose a baseball cap is in this article), bucket hats are in a prime position to take the crown. They’re much more comfortable, protect you from rays of sunshine more effectively, and most importantly – they’re the most stylish accessory you can put on your head! Boys should take notice here and get two bucket hats instead of one just to be sure, because it’s quite probable that your So will want to steal it, along with your favorite hoodie. Personally, I recommend taking a look at bucket hats from Stüssy and Nike.

SHADES – sunnies, your new besties

Yes, putting shades on a list of things to pack to the beach is a bit redundant, however; I just wanted to remind you of the properties of a quality pair of sunglasses. Without a doubt, they can save your outfit, and also help if your eyes look a bit puffy or red from the night before. Give it a try – a basic white T-shirt, a pair of denim shorts, a nice pair of sneakers and a pair of shades from Komono or Retrosuperfuture.

SUMMER TREND TIP: Get a cord to tie your shades and wear them around your neck. They’re also called sunglasses straps.

A TOTE BAG

Towels, sunscreen, your wallet, a book, a bottle of water, something else, something else… You won’t fit all of this into your waist bag. Which is why we’re stocked up on cool tote bags that you’ll use not only on your way to the beach, but also for taking your laptop to school when your backpack doesn’t match your outfit. At Footshop, you can find tote bags from brands like Nike and adidas, as well as premium brands and designers.

A PAIR OF SLIDES

A good pair of slides is the fundamental element of every summer outfit, be it womens or mens. They’re the ideal shoe for going to the beach, grabbing a couple of drinks in town and also popping out for breakfast. Footshop’s selection features slides featuring three stripes or the swoosh, as well as more traditional Birkenstock sandals or the new Nike Offline 2.0. You can also swap your sneakers out and opt for this type of sandal/slide with your party outfit.

How do I pack for my holiday?
Check out these fundamental tips that’ll make your life easier while you’re packing your bags.

  1. Necessary things go in your hand luggage
Things like your passport and ID, medication, food and water should go into your hand luggage. You never know when you might need any of this important stuff and keeping it on you gives you instant access to it.
  2. Keep track of what you’re packing and remember the weight limit
We’d all like to take our whole wardrobe with us, but that’s quite frankly impossible, and not just because of the weight limit. Before packing, figure out what you need and what you don’t need. You can lay everything out onto your bed, go through it and remove unnecessary items. It’ll also speed up the process.
  3. Save space wherever possible
Pack small items like underwear or jewellery into your sneakers and roll your clothes up. You’ll see for yourself how much space it frees up in your bag. Also, your clothes won’t be as crumpled.
  4. Heavy things go first
Pack the heaviest items such as shoes or books into the bottom part of your suitcase. This way, they won’t crumple up your clothes. Also, remember to put your shoes into a plastic bag so they don’t get everything else dirty.
  5. Put all your liquids into a plastic bag for an extra layer of protection
An extra layer of protection in case your sunscreen, insect repellent or drinks leak is always a good safety precaution. You wouldn’t want all your clothes sticky and greasy from sunscreen.
  6. Keep a list
Keep a list and stick to it, this way you won’t forget anything at home. We’ve prepared an example list below.

So. Now that you know the 5 most important things to pack with you on your holiday, I also put together a checklist of additional things you should pack – do whatever you want with it, you don’t need all of the things that are there, but I recommend checking out the paragraph of things that are nice to have.
